How often should I feed my horse treats?

I've just started helping out at my local riding school and I love giving the horses treats. But I'm not sure how much is too much? I don't want to upset their diet or make them pushy.

Great question! Moderation is key. A few small treats (like carrots or apples) after a lesson is fine, but avoid sugary treats and don't overdo it. Always check with the yard manager first - some schools have specific rules about feeding.

I'd also add - never feed treats from your hand in a way that encourages nipping. Always use a flat palm and make sure the horse takes it gently. Safety first!

Thanks! I'll make sure to ask the yard manager and use a flat palm. I want to be safe and respectful to the horses.

That's the right attitude! The horses will appreciate your care and consideration.
